The closure of Peter Pan’s Flight at Walt Disney World is scheduled to begin on July 8 and will extend through August 20, with a planned reopening to guests on August 21, 2024.
According to an update on the official Walt Disney World website, “Beginning July 8, 2024, Peter Pan’s Flight will temporarily close for refurbishment. The attraction is scheduled to reopen later this summer.”
Walt Disney Imagineering has recently filed a permit for Peter Pan’s Flight, which is described as “Install set elements.” This permit indicates that visitors can expect some changes to the ride when it reopens in August, although specific updates have not been announced by Disney.
As previously discussed, Peter Pan’s Flight has faced scrutiny and criticism for scenes that some consider culturally insensitive, particularly in its portrayal of Native Americans. The depiction of the “Indian Village” and the characterization of Native American characters have been seen as perpetuating harmful stereotypes.
Disney has been actively addressing such concerns across its parks and media properties, updating attractions and content to be more culturally sensitive and inclusive. Recently, we also saw that Tinker Bell was removed from her meet and greet at Magic Kingdom as well. While it is likely not related to the controversy surrounding the film, Mickey Mouse has now taken over all meet and greets at the Town Square Theater, leaving Tinker Bell to only be seen during the Festival of Fantasy show, as well as her final flight from Cinderella Castle during Happily Ever After.
